I'm scratched, stung and stained from blackberry picking around the fields near 280 Bakes HQ. We're lucky, here in Lawrence Weston, for the green areas around us; some of my favourite walks are to and around Kings Weston, the El Dub Moors, Blaise, the bluebell woods... Today's amble was down by the Community Farm, near Saltmarsh Drive. I often walk down that way, with the dog, as it's quiet and a nice 40-45 min wander with lots of changing views. I took an ice cream tub with me today, as I'd been eyeing up the blackberry bushes lately, trying to time it right - and I did! I picked over 1.3kg of berries - a gorgeous way to spend a sunny Bristol morning. I went home and made four jars of jam, and a summer fruits chocolate cake. Take a look at these beautiful berries, and the delicious dessert I had for lunch with the last piece of chocolate sponge in the tin. It's still early in the blackberry season, so I'm looking forward to a fair few more mornings out picking fruit. It's totally peaceful, productive, delicious when you sneak a bite. What are you planning to make with fruit picked this season? Louise Owner, 280 Bakes
