What do you know about Switzerland? Well, if nothing else, the Swiss bake amazing cakes! Back in the summer, we won a 'start up' business competition run by BMI Regional. The prize? Tickets to a European destination! Could a prize get any better?! We had to promise that it would be a business trip, but that wasn't a problem for Louise (the boss). She spent a festive four days before Christmas in northern Switzerland, taking in all the cakey delights she discovered, gathering inspiration and tips from bakers, and basking in the Christmas spirit. Take a look at what she found! That Christmas tree cake is my favourite of the bunch. It's just beautiful, I could barely bring myself to take a slice if it was on my dining table. Luckily (sorry for me), it was just in a shop window. And wow, the shop windows - so festive, so delicious, all over Zurich - definitely a 'must-see' in the winter months! You'll spot some favourites there - that's Red Velvet, two up from the bottom right, and if you've heard of Vermicelle, it's the 'wormy' looking treat, a couple of theme are here - they're everywhere in Switzerland! From Yule Logs, to cookies for the kids, there was everything you could imagine, and more you couldn't. If you're off to the Christmas markets this year, you won't be able to escape the cake. Enjoy!
