The Great British Bake Off is back on our screens tonight, and it's already inspiring us to try new things in the 280 Bakes kitchens without having started yet! This afternoon we tested two new recipes, which we hoped would pass the taste tests and make it onto the 280 Bakes cake menu. Take a look and see what went into the oven... First up... CINNAMON VANILLA LOAF Cinnamon and vanilla??? You're talking our language! Cinnamon, especially, is a favourite spice with the bakers on our team, and I bet this cake will be baked by them at home for family and friends, as well as for deliveries to Bristol customers. It's low in sugar, and packed full of flavour. Secret ingredient: 250g of carrots. Our second trial recipe of the day was PLUM UPSIDE DOWN CAKE Our second trial recipe of the day was the first time we'd tried an upside down cake of any kind - ever - so this was a real experiment. A big box of plums was kindly given to me by a friend from her tree, so this makes the cake technically an 'allotment bake', along with our courgette and carrot cakes. It was pretty nerve-wracking tipping the cake out, but it was flawless. Something to try another time... Use nectarines or peaches instead of plums for a different taste. We're going to need a bigger spoon...
Yum, I think we can call those bakes a success! Stay tuned - Upside Down Plum Cake and Cinnamon Vanilla Loaf will both be on CakeOD in the next week or two. CakeOD - cake, on demand! Louise x Owner, 280 Bakes
